The Hydrogeology Department, within the Geotechnics Department at Civil Engineering Institute Macedonia, continues the activities regarding hydrogeological investigations for creating a basic hydrogeological map of the Republic of North Macedonia in scale 1:100000. Such studies are from the category of fundamental geological investigations financed by the Geological Survey of the Republic of North Macedonia. Namely, this year, in addition to the implementation of phase III of the basic hydrogeological map of the Skopje sheet, stage I of the preparation of a new sheet of BHGM Kumanovo has also begun.
The final maps of the Skopje and Kumanovo sheets should enable solving the following basic needs: definition of the hydrogeological characteristics of the site, recording springs and wells and objects of mineral, thermal, and thermo-mineral waters, establishing the groundwater resource, defining the hydro-chemical characteristics and the quality of ground and surface water, determination of existing and potential groundwater and surface water pollutants, vulnerability and risks of pollution.
