Workshop on Circular Economy and Sustainable Construction with CNIR Representatives
As part of the supervision contract for the construction of the Buzău – Focșani Motorway, Lot 1: Buzău – Vadu Pașii, part of Romania’s A7 Corridor, a second workshop for employees of CNIR – Compania Națională de Investiții Rutiere was held in Ohrid from 30 September to 3 October. CNIR is Romania’s national road investment company, responsible for the development and delivery of major road infrastructure projects.
The workshop, on the topic of “Circular Economy and the Use of Renewable Materials in Construction”, was organised by the Civil Engineering Institute Macedonia – CEIM and the Institute for Research in Environment, Civil Engineering and Energy – IECE. It was led by Prof. Dr. Angelina Taneva-Veshoska, with the participation of GIM experts specialising in relevant areas of civil engineering and infrastructure.
A total of 20 CNIR representatives took part in the workshop, including directors and managers from the technical and project implementation sectors, as well as representatives of the financial sector.
The programme addressed a range of current topics, including:
- new sustainable materials for road construction;
- circular economy principles and their application in the construction sector;
- new opportunities for integrating circular economy approaches into road infrastructure;
- an integrated methodology for assessing slope instability risks in low-quality rock masses;
- a case study of the Kičevo – Ohrid Motorway, followed by a site visit.
The workshop created a valuable opportunity for the exchange of practical experience, knowledge, and good practices between experts from GIM and IECE and professionals from CNIR. It also opened a constructive discussion on the application of modern and more sustainable solutions in future infrastructure projects.
